I read an interesting blogpost by a dear friend an colleague of mine on shell scripts. He has been working on a script that uploads a specified folder (and sub-folders inc. files) to a designated Ftp location. This caught my attention!
I would like to work with that script, if it would be possible to combine this script with Air technology. This way it would be easy to build an editor for files or projects that has the feature of directly uploading the edited project to an online location!
More on this you can find on his blog : 8digits.be >> Shell Scripts
It has been 8 weeks now that i’m working at the webdepartment of Studio100. Time for some updates ! I’m sorry I’ve kept you guys in the dark for so long, but at the end of a day at work, I don’t usually sit behind the computer, and at work I didn’t take any time to write on my blog. But now I have, and here we go …

The first week was all about doing research on how we would build a game, and an editor for it. What assets will we need ? What types will be supported ? How will the data structures look like ? Should we use an as3-engine ? How can we easily create new games starting from nothing then the creator itselfs. We found our awnsers in the first week, and changed them as we wanted, durring testing phases the week after that.
After the testing phases, we started development on the stand-alone platform game. This took me approximately 3 weeks. In this 3 weeks we expirienced glory and horror. Sometimes everything went better and quicker then expected, and sometimes it took me a full day to figure out what was the right way to do something. Anyways, I don’t think this is abnormal. After these weeks of game development, we could finally play a game. After a meeting about the status of the project, there were requests from the team to add and/or change certain objects, and I work on those the week after.
After that, and untill now I’ve been working on the creator application. Build with as3 technology and running in Air. With this tool they will be able to create a new game with the click of ab button. When the game is created or you select an existing game, you can edit all assets of the game. From the different screens and buttons and sounds, to (well ofcourse) building of levels with the level builder.
We had a meeting about the creator this week, and again I’ve been a few remarks of objects that could be added to the game. New game elements and new functionalities for the editor. That’s where i’ve been working on this week.
That’s it for today, more on this project will follow ![]()
Cheers!
I had a splendid first week at Studio 100. Most of the time I worked on analyses to find out how I could start development on the most efficient way possible. And we got our results. We have a presentation about this planned on Tuesday. To be honest, I can’t wait to get back to work on Monday… I really wanna build this game creator tool and work with it myself! I’ll keep you guys posted.

Today I started my internship at Studio 100. It was nice to see all those people again, it feels like it has been such a long time. Today we checked out the project’s to-do’s and listed them in our agenda’s. For now I’ve been working on Object and functionality lists for the platform game pattern I’ll be creating. Tomorrow I want to put all this knowledge into diagrams with their responsible properties and methods.
It was a fun day ! I’m looking forward to working here for the next 3 months.
Didn’t see any gnomes today tho … :p

Allright! It has been some time again since my last post. Time for some updates! First there are some things that developed during the previous time, and new projects ofcourse! Here we go …
Boxing Wild For Kinect
Do you remember my kinect game ? I’ve put it up for the Adobe Design Achievement Award Contest. Let’s hope I pass one of the rounds! Besides that I’ve been asked, together with 3 co-students, to give a talk at te Microsoft Webcafé in Bruges on the first of March. I find that pretty cool!

The Sijo Project
I worked with a friend of mine, on building our very own Touchscreen table. He created one as his graduationproject in his previous school and we had the idea to get this project back on the run. We improved the touch technology and even created some applications for it! It was a very powerfull weekend of interesting labour. All documentation on this project will soon be online !

Atelier Reijngoudt
My sister just started up her company. Next to the fact she is a creative artist, now she is the boss. I promissed for quite some time I would give her a website and now I did! With that I provided a custom build Content Management System so it isn’t hard for her to change / add content. I wish her the best of luck in the buisiness and great fun with the website!

Hey peepz
Lately I finished an actionscript 3 game. Special about this is It is played with the xBox Kinect. I used the kinectforwindows SDK to make it detectable by my pc and in development I used a Native Extension to communicate with the Kinect Data stream.
More on the Air Native Extension for kinect at: http://www.as3nui.com/
The result of this adventure was the creation of a fun boxing game, called ‘Boxing Wild’. I had so much fun creating this that I will now surely buy my own Kinect and expiriment with it. Maybe some Minority-Report-Action, some other Kinect games, creative particles, … yes i’ll be having some fun.
Later ….
I discussed a new project with a friend of mine. This would be ‘building our very own Surface Touch Table’ and writing applications for it. How awesome would that be right !? Anyways, we’ll be starting with this project in February. Looking forward to it ! I’ll keep you posted !

Touch Table
I think I’ve never talked about it on this blog before but now I found some time to do so. I started working in the multimedia branch about 6 years ago in secondary school ( or what is it called in english? ) It were the basics of designing and developing for browsers and applications. This got me exited to dig into it a lot further and after my graduation, I started high-school, for the education of DEVINE – Digital Design And Media
Devine is an all-round education that has it’s main focus on webdesign and development, mobile solutions, native, non-native, interactive, … media. The goal of devine is to create one person who can design and develop anything the customer would ask for. For some of you already know that it isn’t naturally to design as good as you have skills in development, and the other way around. That’s one of the big challenges in this education.
It’s an unique education of the University College of West Flanders. Located in Kortrijk, West Flanders, Belgium. And it’s … awesome!

Hey Guys
I’m sorry that I have been away for a little while.. But I had to get some work done, not distracting myself by digging into cool stuff to blog about. After work I went on a holliday twice for a week with the amazing girl I love:) That’s why I haven’t been able to write any new stuff. But guess what .. I’m back in the Country and ready for some awesomeness!
I noticed that a few of my readers posted motivating comments on some of my posts. Really nice to read when I opened my dashboard today! Near the fact that I really love the field I’m working in, you people are the reason that I write! Thanks very much for your reply’s!
So I’ll be back in the game soon. Need to update myself on a few matters first tho ( get rid of the old stuff, making place for the fresh things, … ). If there are any requests, please my all means .. share them, and I’ll be happy to look it into!
Cheers !

I’m currently working with Logsys Nv. One of their focus areas is the development of a global web-based solution for port terminal management. They asked me to develop a web-based iPad application that would visualize every KPI ( Key Preformance Indicator) they have on their client-businesses.
They will be providing me with web-services that deliver a hugh pile of data. For instance; every KPI has different types of nodes with different data-types. So it will be quite a task to create a model that can identify each KPI, it’s un-pre-declaired nodes, and their values.
Your blogpost title was about Sencha ?
Let’s get back on the subject here, indeed. So I will be developing this web-based application using the Sencha Touch Framework. It has all the features I need to create this application. All features but one …. Sencha Touch does not (yet) have the capability to create charts. (f*ck!)
So here I was, left with a big question-mark on how to solve this problem. I could build it using flash, but then I (again) would be faced with the fact … apple’s mobile devices do not support the flashplayer. I tried different libraries such as Raphaël.js, Highcharts, Flot,… none of these did what I wanted to achieve.
Skip the sad part, get to the solution !
After a whole week of waisting valuable time on non-sencha libraries, I tried the solution google-code offered me. ( I was sceptic before ) It said that I should rip the charting SDK from Ext.js 4 (another framework of sencha) and force it intp the Sencha Framework to get what I needed.
So I downloaded the Ext.js 4, went all ‘boogyman‘ into the source-files, and tried to get the charting running in Sencha Touch…. without results. I still didn’t have charts in my application.
Then, (that was today) I found the solution. I am still using the Ext.js 4 Chart SDK (oppo-charting), but while programming I have to adjust my way of thinking in Sencha Touch. After I added the Chart object to the items-list of a component, I MUST specify that the chart would be rendered to the Ext.getBody() (its a Ext.js 4 thing). When I did this, my chart appeared in my application..Ahhhh Finally!
Nice… but that ain’t the whole story, is it?
No, it isn’t. Sencha announced that it’s latest Touch framework update will be coming with the integration of charts. So i’m doing all this, to make it work now, but know that in this and a few weeks, the framework WILL be capable to create charts, on it’s own touchadelic way. Am I the only one not laughing? I probably am eh?…

Hey there guys
After a busy exam period, the holidays are finally here. Yes! But, I will have plenty of things to do this summer!
For starters, tomorrow I begin at my (1 month) job at Logsys where I created a new websitte two years ago. This time I will be developing an iPad application. ( what I think is super awesome )
I’ll be using Sencha’s Touch framework build on javascript, .Net to gain acces to existing web services and PhoneGap to wrapp the application and make it deployable to iPad (and other tablets?). I acually have never written .Net before, but I see it as a challenge, and I will be happy to take it!
When the App is finished I will sure share a demo movie! ( I’m allready looking forward to it!)
